In the beautiful setting of Maloit Park in Minturn, Colorado sits 10 kilometers of Ski and Snowboard Club Vail designed, built and maintained Nordic trails. First opened in 2011, the SSCV Nordic Center has quickly become the setting for world-class training and competition. At the same time, the trails provide a great place for the community to enjoy the outdoor sports of Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.
Vail’s Golden Peak is the primary training venue for Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s Alpine programs. Due to the generosity and support of Vail Resorts, SSCV is able to have one of the best training venues in the world. Located at the easternmost point on Vail Mountain, Golden Peak is served by the Riva Bahn Express high-speed quad chairlift. By using SSCV’s state of the art snowmaking system, training is able to begin on Gold Peak in early November.
Since 2009, SSCV has been able to open the doors of Gold Peak to guest teams from around the world for exceptional early season training. By mid November each year, you can find the best World Cup ski racers from around the world, whether it’s the US Ski Team, Austrian, Swiss, Italian or other powerhouse nations taking advantage of our world class training venue in preparation for the World Cup season.
In addition to the alpine facilities you will find a Skier and Boarder X training course, an air bag jump for big air and halfpipe training and a mogul training course all within the confines of SSCV’s training venue. Just outside of the SSCV training arena, our partner, Vail Resorts maintains a top level terrain park with a variety of jumps and features for all abilities, as well as a 22’ halfpipe.
Since 1977, the Ski & Snowboard Club Vail Clubhouse has sat at the base of Vail’s Golden Peak. This ski in-ski out facility has served numerous uses over the years. Currently it is the athlete’s main base while doing their on snow training. The convenient location provides the optimal location to access SSCV’s Golden Peak training facilities.
In the clubhouse you will find office space for coaches, meeting space for training groups, an administrative office, our Pro Shop to service most of your equipment needs, tramps for acrobatic training and our conditioning facility.
SSCV houses their strength training facility in the clubhouse at Golden Peak. The facility has the most state-of-the-art equipment on hand to allow our athletes to strength train in a full, free range of motion to focus on the modalities of strength, power, cardio, mobility and flexibility. Utilizing pneumatics, whole body vibration, VO2 and Lactate Threshold testing systems and good old-fashioned iron, the SSCV Human Performance Staff builds the athletes physical potential to assist them in reaching their performance goals while reducing injury risk.
Due to a partnership formed with Eagle County School District, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail has been able to turn the former Minturn Middle School into the Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy. This academy serves SSCV athletes in grades 5 through 12.
On the first floor of VSSA, are some unique facilities for our student athletes. An acrobatics room with two 7’ flybed tramps, a foam pit and tumbling areas provides a crucial environment for safe practice of off-snow tricks. The Training Table offers daily meals to aid in proper nutrition for top-level athletes. A large gymnasium supplies ample space for athlete conditioning. An in house Tune Shop provides SSCV ski and snowboard techs with state of the art equipment to prepare athlete’s equipment for training and competition.
Daily travel is a necessary part of our programs’ success. Reliable, affordable transportation is a key component of our programming, which enables us to provide access to conditioning and acrobatic facilities in the Eagle Valley, training at Vail Resorts 5 local mountains or travel across the country to competitions. To facilitate this need, SSCV maintains a fleet of vans and trailers allowing us to minimize travel cost, while maximizing training and competition access.
